AventX™ MPE Produces Solid Savings for The Gunlocke Company

By Anonymous

RICHMOND, VA - September 9, 2002 - Ask MANMAN program analyst Debbie Robinson of The Gunlocke Company to describe the challenges of using AventX™ MPE, and she will say, “There are none.” Robinson was charged with the responsibility of finding, implementing and managing an integrated faxing software product for the HP e3000 that would enable employees to communicate with customers faster. “The product is so easy to work with,” she declares. “We’re lucky this one works very easily for us.”

In its 100th year, The Gunlocke Company has managed to do what few companies its age have done: remain successful. Once known as the W.H. Gunlocke Chair Company, the business evolved from a fledgling bedroom, library and lounge chair manufacturer, to a trusted maker of high-end office wood furniture, including laminate casegoods, veneer casegoods, laminate tables, seating, and custom conference tables. Now an operating unit of HON INDUSTRIES Inc., a Fortune 1000 company, Gunlocke wanted to improve the quality of communication to its customers in the professional services sector, including accounting, consulting, legal, banking, brokerage and insurance firms, and among its own employees without sacrificing the quality of the products it built.

“Just batch printing our six-part sales order acknowledgements took a lot of coordinating,” adds Robinson. “In addition to being manually faxed to customers, copies had to be distributed to finance, distribution, accounts receivable, customer service, and external sales and mailed out to customers without a faxing capability.”

Mailing acknowledgements could be exceptionally troublesome when customers needed to change their orders. “Customers wouldn’t receive their acknowledgements for one or more days. Once an order was placed, it was sent to our production floor for fulfillment. If any last minute changes surfaced, our production schedule was rearranged and our resources were reallocated to accommodate the requests, straining our order fulfillment process. The practice was costly,” states the program analyst.

Robinson evaluated two other faxing software products, in addition to the AventX™ product suite from STR Software. “What really sold me was how easy AventX™ MPE was to implement. Once I saw the demo, I knew this was what we needed. I also talked to some of your customers who confirmed how simple AventX™ MPE was to install. It was important for us to save on implementation costs by doing it ourselves, so I knew I could do it and be successful at it.”

What amazed Robinson even more was getting a phone call from Ben Bruno, STR Software president. “It’s so rare for the president of a company to actually take the time to make a sales call. I was impressed with his enthusiasm,” observes Robinson. “He made me feel like our company was important, that we were just as vital as his larger customers. You don’t see that level of customer service everyday.” Bruno also assisted her with a remote installation of AventX™ MPE from STR Software’s headquarters in Richmond, Va.

The Gunlocke Company batch faxes approximately 400 pages a day composed entirely of sales order acknowledgements. The organization plans to automate its purchase orders and invoices by the end of 2002. Robinson notes, “The application grows with us, which makes it even more cost-effective.” The company also purchased AventX™ Mail, an option to AventX™ MPE, to enable users to send documents via email.

The finance, distribution, accounts receivable, external sales and customer service departments use the AventX™ product suite regularly. According to Robinson, “Our customer service people have been able to make order changes immediately. They respond more rapidly to customers’ demands, sometimes while still on the phone, without compromising the production schedule.” Users also have the ability to re-queue their failed documents from their desktop computers via the AventX™ Manager, the Windows client that lets employees manage and administer their faxes or emails.

Robinson praises: “I cannot stress enough how wonderful the service has been! The technical support people have been great helping me take AventX™ MPE further. The documentation is straightforward, too. Technical and non-technical people will have no trouble understanding how to make this product work.”
